Ivywood Classical Academy is a brand new classical charter school in Plymouth, MI affiliated with the Barney Charter School Initiative. Founded in 2019, the school serves just over 130 students in grades K-5. As part of our tour of the whole BCSI network this spring, I visited Ivywood with our curriculum and instruction team. The school is young, but well on its way to success.
Here’s a glimpse inside Ivywood Classical Academy:
Ivywood Classical Academy, in Plymouth, MI. Ms. Holland checks in to begin our visit. In Michigan, you have to bring snow boots to school. It’s cold here! The school virtues serve as a reminder to students as they leave the classroom. A Kindergarten classroom at Ivywood Classical Academy. Kindergarteners were ready for our visit! Mr. P Grzesiak guest teaches a fourth grade PE lesson. Students in 4th grade had been studying the Middle Ages. These illuminated letters were beautifully done! By creating illuminated letters students imitated the careful work of medieval artists. Students learned that there are over a billion galaxies and did some writing about some of them. In art, students learned about texture and found an opportunity to connect their work to a math lesson. Mr. Grzesiak teaches first grade students to play flag tag. Instructions on a white board tell students what to expect as they enter the classroom. Thank you for a great visit, Ivywood!
