Yesterday afternoon Mr. King, the chairman of our Archers Council parent organization, stopped by to give our head boys and head girls a quick lesson in Robert’s Rules of Order. These students lead the houses of Beethoven, Da Vinci, Euclid, Herodotus, Shakespeare, and Newton, working with the rest of the upper school to plan dances and community service projects. Knowing how to conduct a meeting, create an agenda, take minutes, and deliberate with others according to parliamentary procedure will serve them well now and in any professional association they join in the future.
I am so grateful to Mr. King for his leadership of the Archers Council, and for helping us teach the students to be effective leaders as they prepare for college and adulthood. The head boys and head girls will get some practice in Robert’s Rules as they work together to plan prom in the spring.
Do you have a particular skill or area of expertise that you’d like to share with our upper school students? They meet in their houses regularly at the end of the day, and we regularly bring in local professionals, college reps, and parents to speak to them about life in college and beyond. If you’d like to speak to Founders students about your career, please contact us here.
